There are lots of people to meet on this trip. Many of the passengers had just taken the river cruise that covers the northern part of France, then transferred to this ship for the southern part. We met one of those couples this morning and she told me about this:
Gluten free and dairy free French Toast! It was quite respectable😊
This morning's excursion was devoted to the oldest parts of Lyon. We were taken up a winding road to Fourviere Hill overlooking the rest of the city. Here we saw the Basilica Notre-Dame.
I tried a panoramic shot!
We traveled back down to the old section of Lyon (Vieux Lyon), where we experienced "secret" passageways between the old buildings, and saw a vital area of narrow streets filled with restaurants and shopping.
But my favorite sites were buildings in a section of Lyon where artists had painted realistic murals on the sides of buildings. This one called La Fresque de Lyonnaise, consists of paintings of balconies. Each one depicts a famous person significant to the history of France.
And my favorite - Antoine De Saint-Exupery who wrote The Little Prince:
After lunch on board the ship, we were back on the bus to a 13th century walled village called Perouge. It remains virtually unchanged. Access to modern amenities like underground plumbing and cables are covered with cobblestones to keep the authentic appearance. About 1200 people live there. Many work at the nuclear power plant nearby!
The views from the top of the watch tower were far reaching and lovely.
We tasted the famous dessert called la galette. It looks like a cheese pizza but it's just a crust with a topping made of sugar, lemon rind and orange rind.
